The search for a way to stay young is not a new one. The Fountain of Youth has been the grail of many people throughout the ages, and so long as people are growing old, there will always be those that want to stop the clock.

Botox, Plastic Surgery, Health & Fitness Methods, Specialty Diets, and so many more.

The search for the fountain of youth has endured and so we come to what could potentially be the non invasive, non - surgical, and naturally occurring method for staying young. NAD.

So what is it? Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide to be exact. A naturally occurring substance found in our bodies, everybody's body. Yours, mine, everyone.

Here are some of the facts:

  • NAD is vital for cellular metabolism (energy)
  • NAD declines with Age
  • NAD plays an important role in our sleep cycle. You remember sleep right? That thing you used to get when you were younger and is paramount in pretty much everyone of our biological processes including cellular recovery.
  • NAD has only just become of a major subject of study. Yes we have known about it for over 100 years but it was not until recently that we started studying it's effect on aging.

According to this article on ScientificAmerican.com

"the molecule participates in a host of metabolic pathways and is involved in other important processes, such as DNA repair. NAD+ levels naturally decline as people and animals age, and this loss has been proposed as contributing to the underlying physiology of aging."

Correlation does not necessarily mean causation, however, the article does go on to say:

"Studies show that boosting NAD+ levels can extend life span in yeastworms and mice. Animal research also indicates NAD+’s promise for improving several aspects of health. Raising levels of the molecule in old mice appears to rejuvenate mitochondria—the cell’s energy factories, which falter over time. Other mouse studies have demonstrated benefits such as improved cardiovascular functionenhanced muscle regeneration and better glucose metabolism with NAD+ supplementation."

So, I know you are wondering what does all of that mean. Is NAD something that will help make me young?

Consider this, Botox is a poison, Surgery is Trauma to the body, and both of those are not "naturally occurring".

Diet and exercise of course play a huge role in how we age and how healthy we are. Things like Vitamin C play a huge role in skin health, which can affect how we look as we age.

None of these are getting to the root of the issue though and that is the amount of energy we have as we get older. If you are looking for research on this all you really have to do is ask anyone over the age of 45 how they are feeling compared to when they were 20. The word energy comes up a lot whenever we ask.

Energy, mitochondrial energy to be exact, is heavily impacted by NAD. So can NAD make you young again? Perhaps it won't turn back the aging clock, but it may just help you feel young again by helping to increase your energy levels. Every body is truly different so there is really only one way to find out. Come in and try it out.

Wondering about some of our sources for this article? Other than our own training and education, that is?

We of course encourage you to read more and research more on the effects of NAD+ and the aging process. While we are not hear to make any claims about NAD+ we do work with it every day and see the benefit it brings our clients. Some of our NAD clients are crossfitters and fitness fanatics, however many are just like you and me. They are everyday people that want to enjoy a healthy and long life. If you want to discuss our NAD+ treatments please give us a call.
